Garden of Inspiration
           ...words that have uplifted

...For He shall give His angels
charge over thee,
to keep thee in all thy ways.
Psalms

Divine things must be loved to be known.
Pascal

On this page are a few of the flowers of wisdom I have collected over the years and pressed between the pages of my books and memory.  They are arranged here in no particular order but as a collage of thought.  Enjoy!
                                                            Heather

Pass in, pass in, the angels say,
In to the upper doors,
Nor count compartments of the floors
But mount to paradise
By the stairway of surprise.
                                      Emerson

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all true art and science.
                                                                         Einstein

When physical vision has transcended space,
Another sky opens to the eyes of the soul.
                                                                          Rumi

Jesus...set before me the book of nature; I understood how all the flowers He has created are beautiful, how the splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not take away the perfume of the little violet or the delightful simplicity of the daisy.  I understood that if all flowers wanted to be roses, nature would lose her springtime beauty, and the fields would  no longer be decked out with little wildflowers.  And so it is with the world of souls, Jesus' garden.
                                                                                          Therese of Lisieux

Holiness grows so fast where there is kindness.
The world is lost for want of sweetness and kindness.
Do not forget we need each other.
                                                        Mother Teresa of Calcutta

The softest things in the world overcome the hardest things.
                                                                            Lao-tzu

Think, when you behold a flower,
that it is calling specially to you.
Contemplate beauty in the world around you,
and you yourself will become beautiful.
                                                                    Anonymous

The angels speak to us through flowers.
                                       Meredith Young-Sowers

It is not a matter of thinking much but of loving much.
                                                                      Teresa of Avila

Our doubts are traitors,
And make us lose the good we oft might win,
By fearing to attempt.
                                                                  Shakespeare

If you hear a voice within you saying, 'You are not a painter,' then by all means paint...and that voice will be silenced.
                                                                 Vincent Van Gogh

You must not set yourself up as a judge--
that is God's right alone.
Your only mission is to be an angel of peace.
                                                           Therese of Lisieux

To love for the sake of being loved is human,

Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it...
                                                                           Goethe

Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your life.
Learn to love the questions themselves,
until some distant day, without your knowing,
you will have lived into the answers.
                                                            Rainer Maria Rilke

I dwell in possibility.
                                                            Emily Dickinson

I never found the companion that was so companionable
 as solitude.
                                                                  Thoreau

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony.
                                                                               William Henry Channing

Of all earthly music that which reaches farthest into heaven
is the beating of a truly loving heart.
                                                           Henry Ward Beecher

Love is always the answer to healing of any sort.

If you don't know what your passion is, realize that one reason for your existence on earth is to find it....God can dream a bigger dream for you than you could ever dream for yourself.
                                                                                            Oprah Winfrey

The past shapes us, but by following the deep calling to heal ourselves and throw off old curses, we may be able to reshape our response to that past and perhaps even the way in which we remember it.
                                                                                            Gregg Levoy

Whoever you are, wherever you may be, the Golden Key to harmony is in your hand now....All that you have to do is this:  Stop thinking about the difficulty, whatever it is, and think about God instead.
                                                                         Emmett Fox

Jesus has no need of books or teachers to instruct souls; He teaches without the noise of words.  Never have I heard him speak, but I feel he is within me at each moment.  He is guiding and inspiring me with what I must say and do.  I find, just when I need them, certain lights that I had not seen until then, and it isn't most frequently during the hours of prayer that these are most abundant, but rather in the midst of daily occupations.
                                                                                          Therese of Lisieux

Deep, unspeakable suffering may well be called a baptism, a regeneration, the initiation into a new state.
                                                                                            George Eliot

To change how we see things takes falling in love.  Then the same becomes altogether different.  Like love, a shift of sight can be redemptive...

Overcome any bitterness that may have come because you were not up to the magnitude of pain that was entrusted to you.  Like the mother of the world who carries the pain of the world in her heart, each one of us is part of her heart, and therefore endowed with a certain measure of cosmic pain.  You are sharing in the totality of that pain.  You are called upon to meet it in joy.
                                                                                           Pir Vilayat Khan

Without this playing with fantasy no creative work has ever yet come to birth.  The debt we owe to the play of imagination is incalculable.

I am certain of nothing but of the holiness of the
Heart's affections and the truth of Imagination--
What the imagination seizes as Beauty must be truth
--whether it existed before or not.
                                                                          Keats

I have often thought that the best way to define a man's character would be do seek out the particular mental or moral attitude in which, when it came upon him, he felt himself most deeply and intensely active and alive.  At such moments there is a voice inside which speaks and says:  "This is the real me!"
                                                                                            William James

We fear that what is inside of us is dark, ugly, and overpowering.  But once we gain the courage to wrestle with this fear, we learn an astonishing fact:  what is hiding inside us is our own blocked life energy.  It is love; it is light; it is the essence of God. And releasing this energy is the ultimate purpose of love relationships.
                                                                        Harville Hendrix

The angels can rearrange someone's priorities more efficiently and quickly than any form of psychotherapy....If your life is a succession of problems, look to why you feel you don't deserve happiness.  Then expect happiness and establish a zero-tolerance policy toward unhappiness.

Believe in a love that is being stored up for you like an inheritance, and have faith that in this love there is a strength and a blessing so large that you can travel as far as you wish without having to step outside it.

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The soul that rises with us, our life's star,
Hath elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar:
Not in entire forgetfulness...
                                           Wordsworth

Miracles do not happen in contradiction to nature,
but only in contradiction to that which is known
to us of  nature.
                                                                    St. Augustine

The magic of love can be so hard to hold onto while we are living in this world.  The veils of limitation and despair that wrap themselves around our brains each day, the obstructions to joy that are the rule and not the exception to the emotional tenor of our times, the disappointments and fears that press down on our hearts from every angle of our lives, make breaking through to a more miraculous state seem like little more than a childhood fantasy.  Yet spiritual practice makes it possible.
                                                                                     Marianne Williamson

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.
                                                                                Psalms

The heart has its reasons
 which reason knows nothing of.
                                                                                                         Pascal

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly:
what is essential is invisible to the eye.
                                                                              Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Life, believe, is not a dream
So dark as sages say;
Oft a little morning rain
Foretells a pleasant day.
                                                      Charlotte Bronte

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers,
for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
